When making or breaking a long string of drill rods, the safety foot clamp holds the string concentric and prevents it from dropping down the hole. Drill string is hoisted or lowered and the foot clamp takes a grip just below the first joint to allow removal of a drill rod, or near the top end of the string to permit addition of a drill rod.
